Tatura’s only licensed vehicle testers

In Victoria, a roadworthy certificate shows that a vehicle is safe enough to be driven on the road. You’ll need one when you’re buying, selling or transferring a registered vehicle, when you re-register a vehicle, and to clear some defect notices.

Only licensed vehicle testers can issue a roadworthy certificate. Jagmotive is licensed by VicRoads to test light vehicles (LVT 12379), so you can get yours done locally. We inspect all makes and models of light vehicle, from passenger cars and 4WDs to light commercials.

If your vehicle needs work to pass, our workshop can quote and carry out the repairs, then re-inspect it for you.

Step by step

How a roadworthy works

1. Book in

Book online, or call us on 03 5824 1022 to find a time that suits.

2. Inspection

We check the vehicle’s safety items against the VicRoads roadworthy standards.

3. Pass

We issue your roadworthy certificate. It’s valid for 30 days, so you can sell, buy or transfer with it.

4. Not yet

We give you a failed test report listing what needs fixing. Get those items repaired and bring the vehicle back within 14 days for a second inspection. After 14 days, a new full inspection is needed.

The inspection

What a roadworthy checks

A roadworthy inspection checks that the key safety parts of your vehicle haven’t worn or deteriorated, and that it’s safe for normal road use.

  • Wheels and tyres
  • Steering, suspension and brakes
  • Seats and seatbelts
  • Lights and reflectors
  • Windscreen and windows, including the front wipers and washers
  • Body and chassis
  • Engine-related items

What a roadworthy isn’t

It isn’t a check of the vehicle’s mechanical reliability or general condition, and it doesn’t guarantee the vehicle is free of wear. Non-safety accessories such as the air conditioner, rear demister and rear wiper aren’t checked. It also can’t guarantee that items keep working after the inspection: a brake light, for example, can stop working at any time.

Buying a used car?

If you want a full report on a vehicle’s condition and reliability, book a pre-purchase inspection as well. It looks further than a roadworthy, so you know what you’re getting before you part with your hard-earned cash.
